Almost 5.5 million women in the United States have a condition called Melasma. This is a disorder of the pigment of the skin. Dark blotches that are very disturbing to women appear on the forehead, face and neck areas. Occurring in approximately 70 percent of pregnant women, the main causes are hormonal changes in the body due to the pregnancy, and the skin’s exposure to the sun.

Staying out of the sun during the hottest part of the day, using sunscreens of at least 15, and wearing a hat with a brim will help. Not one woman wants to cure one thing and then have something worse crop up in her health. When you have discoloration on your skin due to pigmentation disorders, you must be very careful to read the ingredient list on the label before you purchase the pigmentation cream you want to use to lighten up the pigment. There are ingredients in the creams that have been linked to causing cancer.

One such ingredient is called hydroquinone. When it is used in a pigmentation cream, it sheds the pigmented cells, but it has been found to be too strongly concentrated. It burns the skin and has caused patches of white where no pigment could be made ever again. Many times, even the pores would turn black which made the condition appear worse. Two other ingredients are Arbutin and Bearberry Extract that seem harmless until you fully realize their dangerous attributes. Bearberry is pure Arbutin, and Arbutin also releases hydroquinone into the skin, so you are still not safe.

What can you do? There are two creams formulated to treat pigmentation disorders that are safe to use and that work on melasma and other discolorations of the skin. One is Lumixyl, a skin brightener with years of clinical trials under its belt. In 4 months time patients had reduced their melasma up to 50 percent, some in as little as eight weeks! Even though it costs more, most women would be so happy that it worked and they were safe, the costs would not concern them. The other cream is called Perle Skin Brightening Cream which uses four ingredients together which the company has named Maplex. Maplex is also patent pending.

Testimonies are coming in from satisfied women who are so happy with the results they are getting when using these creams. Never use a cream with hydroquinone again for your hyperpigmentation when you can use one that is studied and found to be perfectly safe.

Pigmentation on face is a common in many people and can cause much unwanted stress and concern. Talking to many women who suffer from unwanted skin discolorations, many just want a chance to go outside in the summer and not have to cover themselves with make-up to disguise their hyperpigmentation on their face. Furthermore many are fed up with spending money on skin lightening products that have done nothing to get rid of their melasma or hyperpigmentation on their face and hands.

Skin pigmentation is a complex problem and I am not going to lie to you, there is no miracle cure that works for absolutely everyone. However, there are some skin lightening products that do work and have helped a great deal of people to deal with their skin problems. In an ever saturated market for skin lightening creams, it is often difficult to pick out the good ones from the bad. Without the proper knowledge you can end up wasting money or more worryingly worsen your condition. Sadly the online market is awash with pigmentation creams that contain harmful bleachers, steroids and mercury that can do damage to your health.

There are however, a few skin lightening creams that do work, are not harmful and continue to change to lives of those who have used it.

Best Creams For Pigmentation On Face

One cream that continues to get the backing of both the dermatologists and the customers it has helped is the pH Advantage Pigmentation Fader.

This cream has a great combination of substances: 2% hydroquinone and 10% glycolic acid.
Scientific studies have shown the effectiveness of glycolic acid in aiding hydroquinone in diminishing pigmentation on face.

If used in small concentrates and combined with the right ingredients hydroquinone is the best substance for fading pigmentation. This cream uses only a 2% concentrate of hydroquinone and is therefore moderately safe for most skin types. This is specifically a great treatment for those who suffer from Melasma and are looking for an effective melasma treatment.

Here are some reviews of people who have tried this product:

“This stuff works. I had some dark spots on my cheek from recent breakouts that just wouldn’t go away. I tried other lightening gels but didn’t really see a difference. After using this for just 2 weeks, I saw an improvement. Now, almost 6 weeks later the spots are completely gone. You just need to have the patience to stick with it and continue using the product.” Beauty Addict- Totalbeauty.com

“I use this to get rid of hyperpigmentation spots caused by cystic acne. This works super fast and is much more effective than 4% hydroquinone from ADC.” – Musa15 – MakeupAlley.com

There are a few skin lightening creams that use natural pigment reducing ingredients to varying success.

One of these is Meladerm Pigment Reducing Complex. Meladerm uses a whole list of ingredients that are well documented to help reduce pigmentation. These include niancinimide, liquorice extract, mulberry extract, kojic acid and bearberry extract.

Meladerm claims to naturally reduce skin pigmentation such as melasma, age spots/liver spots, acne scars, freckles & birthmarks within 8 weeks.

“Meladerm is the best!!! I have seen results on the 2nd day!!! I have a very sensitive skin, but have no side effects from using it. I will recommend this to anyone.” Iwiza- Skinwhitening.org

“I’ve been using meladerm for quite some time now. I originally bought it to lighten some dark spots, but then I also wanted to “brighten” my skin tone.
Lumixyl Topical Brightening Cream

This cream is relatively new and beginning to make a name for itself. It is along the line of new creams that claim to offer a safer and ultimately better alternative to hydroquinone. Developed by the scientists at Stanford university, this cream contains many well known skin lightening ingredients such as licquorice extract and glycerine. But it also has a secret weapon called, Decapeptide-12.

Lumixyl’s Special Ingredient…

Clinical studies have shown Decapeptide-12 seventeen times more potent at inhibiting melanin than hydroquinone. Furthermore a recent pilot study conducted a study using the substance on patients who used Tri-Luma for their melasma and had failed to get results. These patients achieved a 50% reduction of melasma in these patients in under 4 months. (Hantash BM, Jimenez F 2009)

Tri-Luma is considered one of the leading hydroquinone based creams on the market and for those patients to achieved such a drastic reduction in melasma after Tri-Luma had failed is quite remarkable.

Other reports have claimed that they have managed to reduce skin discolorations within 8 weeks.

I have scoured the internet for reviews and here are selection I found:

“Lumixyl is amazing. If feels like a luxury serum and gets rid of dark patches” – Nylon -Makemeheal.com

“After the first week, you will actually start to see a difference! Also, it worked amazing during my monthly breakouts” – Whitney -Whizmakeup.blogspot.com

Unlike hydroquinone which bleaches the skin pigment lumixyl restains the enzyme that is responsible for the production of melanin. So Lumixyl attacks the root causes for pigmentation on face which is the overproduction of melanin.

Combining this cream with a RetinA topical will speed up the effectiveness of this cream. The one thing that will put people off this cream is the price $120! That’s quite a bit more expensive than the other two creams I have listed on this site. However, when compared to the price of other skin lightening systems out their (such as Obagi Nuderm skin lightening system) it is fairly reasonable.

->Click Here for more information on Lumixyl<-

The best approach to dealing with hyperpigmentation on face

It is widely accepted that the best way to deal with pigmentation on face is to use a variety of creams and treatments. If you are using a hydroquinone based cream, it is best to use the cream in a 4 month cycle. On your “off” months you can use one of the non-HQ creams we have mentioned here.

The most important measure to prevent hyperpigmentation on face and skin is through protecting yourself from the sun. Using a high factor sunscreen is a must. For those with oily skin our recommendation is Biore UV Perfect Face Milk SPF 50 PA+++ . This is one of the only sunscreens I have found that is truly non greasy. This feels great on the skin and it’s a high factor too.

Skin lightening creams are the most popular treatments for pigmentation on face due to it’s inavasiveness. There are other forms of pigmentation treatment available if you patches continue to cause you problems. These include IPL, microdermabrasion, chemical peels and laser surgery. It is important that you consult your dermatologist before going for any of these measures to reduce your pigmentation on face.
